According to the Real Cost Measure in CA, 2023, 65% of households with children under the age of six are struggling financially in San Joaquin County.
The Joan Richards Learning Village (JRLV) Preschool enrolls children ages 3-5 years old whose families are living below the State median income. Studies* have shown that an early childhood education intervention for children living in poverty enhances school readiness and increases the success of educational attainment, employment, and other important life incomes sustained well into adulthood (*Abecedarian Project). Our dedicated Teachers are working year-round, to help each student reach their developmental milestones-preparing them for success in school and in life.
Our bright students at our Preschool are chronically exposed to poverty-related stressors and are demonstrating delays in social-emotional competencies upon enrollment. However, despite the adversity our young students are facing, our teaching staff are able to track and observe the positive progress students are making in their emotional development. Teachers cannot do this work without the support of generous donors like you.
